What I've been reading, watching and doing in July

In my monthly newsletter, I share a few personal things that I've been enjoying over the last month, in addition to the latest real estate and local news highlights. If you are interested in signing up for my newsletter, you can do so here.

Here are a few things I’ve been up to lately…

Book I'm reading: "Outlive" by Peter Attia. Here is an excerpt from the Amazon description: "A groundbreaking manifesto on living better and longer that challenges the conventional medical thinking on aging and reveals a new approach to preventing chronic disease and extending long-term health, from a visionary physician and leading longevity expert." I am not done with the book yet (I am about two-thirds of the way through), but if you are interested in learning how to maintain or improve your health as you get older, I definitely recommend checking out this book. Here are my biggest takeaways from the book so far: 1) Early and frequent health screening is crucial for disease prevention. 2) Exercise is the greatest longevity drug we have. 3) Get lots of sleep. Attia does a good job of making science accessible and also provides lots of tactical strategies too.

TV show I’m enjoying: Break Point on Netflix. It's a great docuseries (same team from the "Formula 1: Drive to Survive" series) that follows a group of tennis players through the 2022 season. They released more episodes right before Wimbledon started. I'm looking forward to watching the Quaterback series next.

Course I’m taking: Daily Dad Parent-to-Be Challenge This is a 30-day email course from Ryan Holiday. It's good for both parents, not just for Dads-to-be. We are only a few days into the challenge, but it has definitely sparked good conversations and given us some ideas to think about. Here is a little sample: "What are you going to be a stickler about, and what things are you prepared to let slide? Screen time, processed foods, time outdoors, etc. Do you know what your partner thinks? Do you even know how you feel about those things?" I also recommend signing up for his regular "Daily Dad" email too (again, great for all parents, not just Dads).

What I’m looking forward to: Completing the 100-mile Bike to the Beach. The ride goes from DC to Dewey Beach and supports AUTISM & disABILITIES on both a national and local level.
